I had a dream to create something that was part adventure challenge, part creative journey, part soulful wellness retreat, and it came true. Something that would bring together my love of music and mountains; sea and song. I have just returned from Scotland leading the inaugural Save Me From The Waves Adventure Retreat – in collaboration with a group of awesome women - Alice Todd (Co-Founder of SwimQuest); Caroline Stafford (Yoga Teacher / Health Coach / Founder of the Kitsch Hen biscuit bakery). Our swimming guides Clare and Sarah, and our walking guides Jess and Nancy from Girls on Hills. We were joined by 10 wonderful woman – our guest retreaters.
We swam in sea and loch. We climbed to the summit of Sgurr an t-Sasunnaich. We lay in restorative rest by the warmth of a crackling fire. We wrote down our thoughts. We listened to music. We shared stories, and blessings. We cried. We laughed. We danced. We sang. We drank festive gin & tonics and hot chocolate with marshmallows and, oh, the food – a table laden with home-baked cakes, Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, and breakfasts of eggs and haggis (for those that were willing!). At the end of the three days we chose our retreat colours and we planned our future adventures. It was extraordinary. Everything I wanted it to be, and more.
I woke up on the final morning to an email from one of our retreaters which said this:
“You have put so much energy into this amazing few days and it really has been unbelievably fantastic. I could go on and on but I just wanted to say a huge thank you for giving everyone the opportunity to be themselves and the confidence to open up in the deepest and darkest ways. It would not have happened without you and your journeys. Thank you and I will never ever forget this trip.”
When I read this I wept. And couldn’t stop for a while.
For your viewing pleasure - I’ve filled this post with 24 Scotland 2024 photos plus one short video from ‘The Save Me From The Waves Soiree’ which took place on our second night together - and began with everyone (literally everyone) in tears, and ended with everyone (literally everyone) dancing. An unforgettable evening that was my truest and finest ‘coup de theatre’.
We’ll be running the Christmas Retreat again next December – it’s already a quarter full so book now if you want to join us. And next up is our week-long Retreat in Formentera in May. I’m so excited for this now. We all are. Will you be joining us? It’s proving to be a wholly empowering, occasionally emotional, and genuinely inspirational journey for everyone who embarks on it, so here is my Adventure Retreat motto if you’re considering whether it’s for you:
The people who are there are the right people.
The time to join us is the right time - for you.
Trust the wisdom of your instinct on whether it’s the right time.
And if it is, join us on an adventure you’ll never forget - you’ll be with the right people.
Oh Jessica!! This captures everything so absolutely perfectly. I haven’t been able to put into words the experience of being not only part of the team, but also part of the adventure and so now I think I’ll just tell everyone to read this piece of writing. It was an experience that I know none of us will ever forget, and I feel so privileged to be a part of its magic.
You are an incredible human - thank you for creating something so very very special.
Enjoy Taiwan!
Truly amazing! You have joined all your amazing feats, thoughts, sadness and inspirations in your life into one package and given it to others to experience, that is some doing girl, well done and so proud of you xxx
